Last Friday, The New Jersey State Police’s Colonel Patrick Callahan gave an impassioned keynote speech to the 2023 graduating class of Rutgers University’s Criminal Justice Program.

“We are called to deal with the most marginalized people on the face of the earth. And the people that we’re called to deal with, sometimes have been born into this world with a few strikes against them. Whatever that is – addiction, domestic violence, poverty, strife – and when they call 911, they want somebody with compassion to show up and make calm out of chaos. Sometimes the only thing they have left is their dignity. Do not try and take that away cause they will fight you for it, as they should.”
