2017 Rutgers IC CAE Colloquium “The Impact of Social Media on Crime, Terrorism, and Natinal Security Activities”

On Wednesday, September 20, the Police Institute, Rutgers Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (IC CAE), and the Brennan Center for Justice co-hosted the 2017 Rutgers IC CAE Colloquium titled “The Impact of Social Media on Crime, Terrorism, and National Security Activities.”

The event consisted of a panel discussion moderated by ABC News’ Amna Nawaz, and allowed experts from law enforcement, national security, and privacy/civil liberty to share their perspectives.  The panel covered the following topics: 

1.           How social media has changed the way criminals, terrorist groups and foreign intelligence agencies operate

2.           Challenges law enforcement and counter-terrorism agencies face to combat such groups

3.           Concerns of privacy/civil liberties in regards to the government trying to monitor social media platforms
