COP Interns Attend the April 2022 GCLETE Webinar

The COP Spring 2022 Interns attended the Global Consortium for Law Enforcement Training Executives (GCLETE) Webinar on April 6th, 2022. The Consortium is a forum for organizations and law enforcement practitioners in the U.S. and around the world to share information on innovative best practices in law enforcement training and development. Key topics discussed during the meeting include:

  • Adult learning modalities
  • National and international landscapes in police training and development
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Interaction with the community
  • Scenario-based training with modern technology
  • Officer physical and mental wellness

During the Webinar, participants from the United States, Canada, and Sweden gathered to share their experiences by discussing needed reforms in law enforcement training and practice.

Dr. Zsolt Molnar, Head of External Affairs of Special Service for National Security in Hungary, and a guest speaker at the event offered insight into current teaching practices at the European Police College.

The meeting continued by invited participants sharing their insight into different issues relevant to law enforcement training and development. The discussion also focused on the need to increase the use of technology in the adult learning/training environment. Relevant to this recurring theme, law enforcement officials discussed the use of training modules to enforce critical thinking and mitigation practices in a controlled, scenario-based environment. Some participants relayed that they have successfully incorporated scenario-based training modules and expanded procedural justice training into their curricula. The use of such measures can enhance tactical training practices and improve information flow on legislative mandates. Additional discussion also touched on the use of martial arts methods to enhance basic training regimens.

The Center on Policing looks forward to the continued participation of law enforcement executives in this global initiative.
