With summer in full-swing, warmer weather also means outdoor events such as festivals which serve as a reminder to think about protecting public places where there is not a lot of security, also known as “soft targets” such as music festivals and shopping centers.

The DHS recently released a report titled “Soft Target and Crowded Places Security Plan Overview” describing new initiatives to increase security in crowded public places.

A recent article from Homeland Preparedness News quoted DHS officials who stated that “All levels of government, as well as the private sector and even individual citizens, play important roles in protecting communities and preventing attacks.”
